From Canada to India: mobilising local Recruitment with global perspectives

Krishna joined Resource Solutions two months ago as a Recruitment Coordinator, taking on his first position in India after kicking off his academic and professional journey halfway across the globe. Tow years on and now in a senior role, he tells us more about how he’s finding the transition, navigating cultural differences, and life at Resource Solutions.

What is a typical day like in Resource Solutions?

There is no typical day, really! Given our nature of work, we meet candidates with diverse backgrounds and temperaments, and giving them the best experience is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but is our key goal. Day-to-day our role involves tasks like following up with candidates throughout the hiring process, ensuring they’re briefed and able to enter upcoming assessments, and talking about Resource Solutions as an employer.

What did you do prior to working with us?

I started my career in India as a Software Engineer but moved to Canada for higher education. Living there for four years, I gained valuable foreign HRM experience, handling employee relations, terminations, and compliance training, amongst other duties.

I moved back to India for my family, but I have gained a unique set of skills from my time in Canada that has allowed me to break out of my shell. Foreign education and experience are of great value here in region, and I seek to expand on these skills here in my first field role in India with Resource Solutions.

What do you enjoy about working in the GSC?

I am stationed in the Hyderabad GSC, working for one of our global banking clients. What I enjoy here is how meticulous we are in ensuring that no candidate gets left behind during the hiring process. Communication between Resource Solutions and the client are well-developed and efficient, and our work is always acknowledged. It is a win-win. We are motivated to provide the client with the best available talent in the market and ensure that candidates experience is nothing but exceptional, and they do not experience offer delays for example.

What are the main challenges in your role?

The biggest shift has been the changing market from Canada to India – different candidate motivations, priorities, and personalities. Adjusting to that is a challenge but being of Indian descent has made it easier. I try to prepare answers to common queries, but there are an infinite number of responses to adapt to, so I find it useful to keep an open mind, while taking the initiative to nip any issues in the bud before they arise.

How do you find the benefits & working conditions?

With the ongoing pandemic, feeling safe at work is priority. Resource Solutions have gone to great lengths to assure this. Temperature checks at the front desk and mask mandates are enforced, and not just at face value – we are constantly educated about the rationale behind these precautions.

The work process outside of Covid-19 has been excellent. Managers provide adequate support, and there is an open-door policy that encourages everyone to speak up if we feel something in the hiring process is affecting the client or candidate experience. It is all driven by clear, aligned motivations – we are all pushing for the same goal, with no individual vested interests.

How would you define the work culture at Resource Solutions?

The open-door policy extends to our culture here. Resource Solutions have created, and actively promote platforms enabling cultural sharing. They have built an environment that’s inclusive and confidence-building for new employees. We are trusted to perform well from the outset. In my 2nd week, I was tasked to head a team call for everyone to share their Diwali décor back home, which was a great icebreaker for me to interact with my new team members.

Resource Solutions have done an excellent job in building a diverse, inclusive team. I have found this really enriching.

“I’d say that Resource Solutions has everything an employee would want – a rewarding career, both in terms of remuneration and growth, and many opportunities to move up your career ladder and showcase your skills.”

What career path do you see yourself taking at Resource Solutions?

I do not really want to put a label on this, and there is a good reason behind it! Resource Solutions actively encourages employees to explore internal moves into functions they are passionate about, with regular ‘internal vacancy’ ads on Workplace. Instead of seeing it as one worker lost in the team, they are passionate about helping us find our calling and are more than happy to aid in our career development.

If someone were thinking about joining Resource Solutions, how would you describe the company and your experience?

I would say that Resource Solutions has everything an employee would want – a rewarding career, both in terms of remuneration and growth, and many opportunities to move up your career ladder and showcase your skills.

There are two key traits for success in Resource Solutions: initiative, for taking on the opportunities that Resource Solutions offers, and flexibility for the many unique challenges that come your way – these are coveted opportunities for you to strut your stuff!
