Celebrating the Resource Solutions runners

On Sunday 2nd October, over 40,000 people took on the TCM London Marathon 2022 – including four Resource Solutions runners. Completing the historic 26.2-mile route is no mean feat, and we would like to congratulate everyone who took part and raised money for their chosen charities.

We're especially proud of our Resource Solutions runners – Jonny Bohane, Matthew Riley, Sarah-Jane Walker, and Charlotte West. After months of extensive training, preparation, and fundraising, they have collectively raised over £17,000 for the NSPCC – so far – which is a fantastic result.

As they bask in the afterglow of the London Marathon 2022, we caught up with our runners to find out how the day went and celebrate their achievement. If you’re yet to donate to their NSPCC fundraisers, we would love for you to consider giving whatever you can using the links below. Thank you!

What was the atmosphere like on the day?

Everyone told me the crowd will get you over the line, which I really underestimated. So many great gestures, random people cheering your name, handing out sweets or Vaseline (even beers!) really powers you on. Seeing your friends and family in and amongst them even more so.

Describe your overall experience of the London Marathon 2022.

My slow start felt justified given how many wobbly and horizontal runners I passed in the last few miles. I ran alongside a tree for quite a while, someone dressed as a pint of London Pride, Sophie Raworth from BBC news, and had a priest splash me with holy water on the side of the road. Things you just don’t get elsewhere! I eventually finished in 4:04 – no wall, no collapse, just lanky strides right until the very end!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to run the London Marathon?

Compared to the six months of training, the marathon itself is the easy part. That’s the real challenge and can get lonely, but it is all totally worthwhile. Also, don’t get a puppy or move house whilst training…

What was the atmosphere like on the day?

The build-up to the day nerves and excitement were setting in. After months of training, the day had finally come. Yet from the beginning of the day, the atmosphere was friendly and excitable with every runner sharing stories and feelings – whether it was their first-ever marathon or their 81st this year!

The crowds however were something else, from the start all the way to end was unbelievable, the energy and support which was given to every runner was indescribable: they truly carry you through the entire experience and make it an experience you will cherish forever!

I am totally overwhelmed by the support throughout the marathon and afterwards from friends, family, colleagues, and strangers who noticed I had run the marathon.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to run the London Marathon?

In the months leading up to the marathon, be sure to stick to your training schedule. It will definitely help on the day. Most importantly, take time to relish the day of the run itself. It’s amazing achievement to take part and then even complete the London marathon – regardless of time!

Describe your overall experience of the London Marathon 2022.

It was a life-changing experience. The outpouring of kindness and support was just amazing – from my fellow runners checking in to see if I was alright, to complete strangers shouting my name and cheering me on. I was an emotional wreck, but I had the biggest smile on my face throughout the whole thing.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to run the London Marathon?

Sign up to support an amazing charity – that alone will motivate you. Anyone can do it if they commit to the training and stay positive. I went from “couch to marathon” in six months. I also read 119 Days to Go by the DJ Chris Evans, which is a brilliant beginners training guide.

What was the atmosphere like on the day?

The atmosphere was incredible. There’s no way that I could have done it without the support of my friends, family, and random strangers in the crowd shouting support as I ran past!

Describe your overall experience of the London Marathon 2022.

I’d like to say I loved the whole thing but I’m not sure my legs and knees would agree with me! This was one of the best experiences, mentally very challenging but a huge achievement and very rewarding. I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking for a challenge! I’d also like to say a huge thank you to anyone who sponsored me, it definitely helped me get through it.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to run the London Marathon?

Train, train, train. You’ll always wish you had done more. Also, have some deep freeze ready for your aches and pains at the end of the marathon! Otherwise, go for it, you won’t regret it!

Proud partners of NSPCC

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is committed to providing services that help children who’ve been abused, protect children at risk, and find the best ways to prevent child abuse from ever happening. Among these invaluable resources is Childline, a free service for children and young people, there when they are vulnerable and have nowhere else to turn.

We are proud partners of the NSPCC and Childline and we have committed to raising at least £30,000 for them through charitable initiatives – which is the cost of “keeping the lights on” at Childline for just one day.
