What's it like to work for an RPO provider
Andrew Hargreaves joined Resource Solutions in 2013. Andrew is currently the Account Manager on-site at one of our financial services clients. We asked Andrew about his career journey from agency to in-house to finally, RPO working at Resource Solutions.
After university I wanted to work abroad and started my career at a global recruitment consultancy in Australia. Recruitment as a career appealed because I could run my desk like it was my own business. I built up a strong temp book and later moved into headhunting for permanent roles, but my real passion was in the complexity and pace of the contract market.
After a few years of sunshine and beaches, I moved to London and worked in-house at some top professional services brands. This gave me a good insight into the hiring challenges organisations face and how important effective resourcing is within the consulting industry.
What attracted you to Resource Solutions?
Speaking to my network in finance and professional services recruitment a few years ago it seemed the Resource Solutions brand had exploded. I knew this company was going places and I was attracted by the growth and prestigious client base.
I knew this company was going places and I was attracted by the growth and prestigious client base.
I joined Resource Solutions and one of my initial objectives was to deliver a bespoke, flexible resourcing model for a new client. It was a challenge from day one but I really enjoyed the autonomy and opportunity to try something new. In previous roles I had grown tired of repetitive tasks and I knew I wasn’t going to have that problem working here.
Tell us about your career progression path with the company.
Soon after joining, I put my hand up to manage a newly formed team and lead them towards hitting some pretty stretching targets. After learning how to handle numerous challenges that come with running a managed service, I sought further opportunities to grow our services, improve processes, realise cost benefits for the client and work towards strategic goals. This led me into my current role as Account Manager.
What do you like most about the Resource Solutions company culture?
There is a clear focus on being the very best at what we do with a consultative, innovative and adaptable approach. I’m proud to work alongside similar minded people.
What is your favourite Resource Solutions memory to date?
Many highlights but the client events do stand out – watching Andy Murray win the Queen’s Club championship finals is definitely up there!
What are you most passionate about professionally?
I am passionate about bringing real value change to clients and leading teams on that journey. I also enjoy being at the forefront of trends that are shaping the future of recruitment such as the rise of contingent workers and freelancers.
What skills/values do you need to be a successful recruiter at Resource Solutions?
Passion, determination, integrity, and strong stakeholder management skills are important... but above all, I would say problem solving. Bit of a cliché but you really will be faced with a unique challenge every day. Often there is no rule book to turn to, but the client will lean on you to lead them to right solution.
What advice do you have for anyone considering a recruitment role at Resource Solutions?
Tell us what your career goals are and what you’re passionate about. With a diverse range of services and clients, new roles are being designed continually and one might just be the perfect fit for you.
