Are your job posts helping or hindering diversity in your business?

At Resource Solutions our clients span Financial Services, Media, Legal, Technology… in fact, the list goes on and on. However, one common thread is their passion for diversity and our clients, quite rightly, ask us to help find the best talent irrespective of gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or disability. There have been some inspiring and influential equality and diversity initiatives recently with a particular focus on women.

Intelligent recruitment strategies understand that equality should embrace differences – for example, that CV styles may be influenced by gender – but issues may also relate to job postings and ad content. A study from a Hewlett Packard internal report discovered, that men apply for a job when they meet only 60% of the qualifications, but women apply only if they meet 100% of them.

One start-up has made it its mission to thwart gender bias before the talent manager receives a CV. Unitive's software scans adverts and job descriptions for masculine-gendered words and feminine-gendered words to help produce a balanced advert. The company claims that men are not discouraged by feminine-gendered words but women are less likely to apply for a role if the ad is not inclusive.

We love this concept and are always striving to provide our clients with fresh approaches that not only help attract top-tier talent but also align with their values and beliefs. Unitive is only one of the innovative solutions we are exploring for our clients.
