Growing careers at home and abroad
Ashley Peacock began her career with us in 2011 as a Recruitment Consultant in Brisbane, Australia. Ashley then relocated to London where she moved within the Robert Walters Group to Resource Solutions as an on-site Recruiter.
Recently, Ashley moved back to Australia as a Senior Recruitment Partner on-site with one of our global banking clients based in Sydney. We asked Ashley about growing her career in recruitment at home and abroad.
Describe your career progression path within the Robert Walters Group.
As a fresh graduate, I did not know what to expect. After a few months, I quickly realised I had made the right choice in choosing a career in recruitment – a career that was going to continually challenge me and allow me to grow both personally and professionally.
When I decided to move to the UK, I was looking for a new challenge whilst wanting to stay within the Robert Walters Group. A role became available at Resource Solutions as a Hybrid Recruiter covering London and Glasgow with one of their global financial services clients.
In just three years I worked my way up from Recruiter to Account Team Leader gaining a wealth of experience recruiting across operations, legal, compliance, finance, risk, projects, marketing, HR, and support.
I’m proud to work in an inclusive culture that values teamwork and people at their very core.
Describe how your international move come about. How was that process like? How did Resource Solutions support your move abroad?
At the end of 2016, I decided to move back to Australia to be closer to family and friends. Shortly after I notified the Internal Resourcing team, one of the directors in the APAC team contacted me to set up a meeting about a Senior Recruitment Partner role with a new client we had won based in Sydney.
From there the process was incredibly smooth: I began my move back to Australia and whilst I was on holiday in Dubai my offer came through! Quickly after, a start date was confirmed and my Account Director and HR stayed in touch regularly. Resource Solutions helped me with accommodation for my first few weeks in Sydney - this was a huge help!
What are the biggest differences you have noticed about ways of working in the UK vs. Australia?
I think one of the biggest differences between working in the UK vs Australia is the pace. The number of positions I was recruiting in the UK was much higher, which meant the pace in which we were doing things had to be a lot faster. In Australia, the volumes are lower so the service we offer needs to be more high touch.
What traits/skills/values do you need to be a successful on-site recruiter at Resource Solutions?
One of the best parts of working in recruitment is that there is always a lot going on. Getting your priorities right and managing your time effectively will help you stay on top of your game. The ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the organisation is crucial in being a successful on-site recruiter.
Reliability is key- If you want to be perceived as a trustworthy on-site recruiter you need to deliver the service you promised within a certain timeframe. If you guarantee that you will have a shortlist of candidates to your client in 48 hours, then that’s what you need to do.
What is your favourite Resource Solutions memory to date?
Attending the High Achievers trip to Barbados was an amazing opportunity to network with my colleagues from different offices around the world!
What advice do you have for any of your colleagues considering an international move?
Do it! Living and working overseas was an amazing experience and I couldn’t recommend it enough. It allowed me to progress my career in the recruitment space from Recruiter to Team Leader and work with some amazing people along the way. We work for a company that advocates international mobility - so don’t be afraid to ask!
What do you like most about the Resource Solutions company culture?
Resource Solutions is fantastic at ensuring constant employee engagement across the organisation—business updates, road shows, incentive lunches and tailored training. I took part in a buddy program in the UK where we partnered with recruiters at other sites to share knowledge and new ideas. I’m proud to work in an inclusive culture that values teamwork and people at their very core.
