Talk to us about your career path at Resource Solutions.
After graduating from university, I began my recruitment career working as a junior recruiter in-house. Several years later, I got a call from Resource Solutions to see if I’d be interested in a role of theirs. At this point, I had no prior knowledge about what RPO entailed. It was almost an alien recruitment model in Malaysia. But that’s precisely why I decided to take on the challenge, as it would mean stepping out of my comfort zone and bolstering my expertise. I’m now account lead, having started as a direct recruiter three years ago. It’s been an incredible journey so far.
What appealed to you most about working for us?
To be honest, I’d never heard of Resource Solutions before. But being the inquisitive recruiter that I am, I quickly turned on the laptop to do my research on the company. I discovered that the organisation was undergoing a major expansion drive across Asia and had a solid footprint in other regions around the world. This rapid growth impressed me, knowing that I’d be joining a company where there would be lots of opportunities for me to learn about the business, increase my industry knowledge and develop my career.
Describe your typical day and what you enjoy most about the job.
Regardless of which industry sector in recruitment you specialise in, you can bet your bottom dollar that some things in the life of a recruiter will never change. You can be sure of a mailbox swarming with emails from candidates and managers as well as a whole lot of calendar reminders. On any given day, I’ll be working on various roles, which could be at any stage of the recruitment process. Reviewing applicant CVs, conducting interviews, meeting with hiring managers, jumping on conference calls and managing job offers – these are just some of the tasks that keep me occupied and preoccupied! The list goes on. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. There’s nothing like the thrill of closing an offer and having a satisfied hiring manager. It gives me a sense of personal satisfaction knowing that my efforts influence stakeholders positively – that keeps me motivated and driven to go the extra mile.
Why would you recommend a career with Resource Solutions?
Resource Solutions is a company that recognises achievement and rewards its high performers. If you put in the effort and hit your targets, the sky really is the limit – the opportunities are endless. In my three years here, I have been backed all the way and fully supported by a management team that appreciates the quality of my work. You cannot underestimate the importance of being a valued team member and how that rubs off on motivation and morale. It makes you always strive for better.
How would you describe the culture here?
Everything is linked to the company’s four core values – being ‘client focused’, ‘dedicated’, ‘proud’ and ‘united’. What comes across I believe is our team ethic and collaborative approach; we work together to deliver a flawless experience to our customers. Even though many of us are based onsite at the client’s location, you never feel isolated and you always feel part of the team. There’s a great social scene too, we organise drinks and dinner evenings with our colleagues from other accounts. We also attend town hall meetings and lunches to celebrate our successes. It’s very much a ‘one for all’ and ‘all for one’ mentality.
What’s the best part about working for Resource Solutions?
I can’t just narrow it down to one factor. That would be grossly unfair. The two most important things are the people and the career pathways. I’ve worked with truly amazing and talented individuals who have become such good friends. Everyone is so supportive. And if you work hard, live and breathe the company’s values, and always aim for the very highest standards, opportunities for professional growth are never far away. I’m living proof of this – in the last 12 months, I’ve been promoted from recruiter to an account lead. I’ve also been given the chance to lead a new team with a new client – we go live this month!
What makes a successful recruitment specialist?
I’m a firm believer in the power of dedication and resilience. You need a healthy dose of both in recruitment. You need to be extremely committed to your work and the ability to bounce back in any situation will take you far.
