Continuous learning; the secret to success
Sarah Du is an onsite recruiter for one of our largest global investment banking clients in Shanghai. In recruitment, no two days are the same and Sarah has learnt that in order to succeed it's important to keep challenging yourself.
Here she reveals more about her role, the skills needed to succeed and why she feels able to fulfil her potential at Resource Solutions.
What is the key to your success?
You need to have a real appetite for learning and bettering yourself - both personally and professionally. This means having a thorough understanding of the sector and industry that you work for – in my case banking – and the specific challenges that your client faces. As industry experts, we’re expected to know our stuff! Be inquisitive and ask questions - and be proactive in seeking training and development opportunities from the Talent Development team at Resource Solutions.
What do you find most satisfying about your job?
Being recognised for the work you’re doing is always special. I recently received a thank you letter from our client, only one month after joining the team. They were very pleased with the calibre of the candidates that I sourced and this has pushed me to keep going above and beyond to reach out to both active and passive candidates in the market.

What skills do you need to succeed as a direct recruiter?
Having an analytical mind is important as you must provide solutions to problems. Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders is also pivotal – you need to support them every step of the way. With the above in mind, being approachable and proactive when solving problems and building relationships is important - it helps you win the trust of your clients.
What have you found most challenging in your role?
I would say the sheer volume of information that you have to take on board and the fast-paced environment. You need to keep a cool head and know how to prioritise tasks, but we have such a great training programme at Resource Solutions which is helping me develop my skills and overcome challenges. All my colleagues are incredibly supportive and always happy to share their knowledge, which is a great help.
How would you define the culture at Resource Solutions?
Everyone strives for excellence, which makes you want to constantly improve. I like the fact that we’re all held accountable for our actions and that integrity is held in such high regard. We're a collaborative organisation – so the success we enjoy is a team effort.
And finally, what would you say to anyone looking to work for us?
You’ve got to be prepared to work hard – there are no shortcuts to success. But results do get noticed and there are lots of opportunities for you to progress. Resource Solutions is a very forward-thinking global organisation – we’re encouraged to talk to our managers who are always prepared to listen to our concerns and ensure that we’re achieving a healthy work-life balance
