Sheryl, a key pillar of Resource Solutions’ Operational Excellence (OpEx) team. We chronicle Sheryl's journey of growing the OpEx team to its current capabilities, discovering new facets of her talents, and the many happy memories she has gained in the process.

What is your current role & what is a typical day like?

I am currently an Operational Excellence and Training Team Lead, based in the Resource Solutions Manila office. My role has very unique day-to-day, and there is no set sequence of events. What I get up to really varies and depends on the projects we are working on. The dynamism and fluidity of our business keep you on your toes, and it’s always exciting. Whether it be new stakeholders to deal with, new client remits, or new processes, it’s always a new experience each day. The OpEx function covers plenty of tasks that usually kick in three to six months after a solution goes live. These include conducting process reviews and finding opportunities for building process efficiencies, or tool optimizations. Aside from this, I do also handle related tasks, including compliance, creating and maintaining internal dashboards, and transition management. Here, we provide support for new solution implementations, ensure they have documentation that is fit for purpose, assist in team process training, and generally make sure the team stabilizes quickly.

What did you do prior to working at Resource Solutions?

Prior to working at Resource Solutions, I worked as an HR advisor for an oil and gas company in North America. I first worked in the RPO industry back in 2013, back when there were only two firms in Manila. Starting as a Coordinator, I then shifted gears and took on several functions in the same industry – a trainer in L&D, jumping then into Sales, then finally moving into client solutions. I finally settled into an L&D lead role.

Then, the role at Resource Solutions came along, with a proposition encompassing all of my experiences, and I took the leap! Under the OpEx umbrella, there was a unique opportunity to combine my sales, training, and HR knowledge. Thinking back, this OpEx team has grown similarly – today, we cover various remits across transition management, business assurance, and Operational compliance.

What are the main challenges in your role with RS?

Back when it was a one-man team, in OpEx’s infancy, and we were not sure about the direction it would take, we were just trying to align processes with an ambition and desire to create an enhanced level of service for our clients.

Looking back, it reads more like a journey of growth instead of a challenge. The many experiences that have come with the role - managing stakeholders from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and asking the right questions to ask to move things forward. There has been plenty to learn, every step of the way.

How do you find the benefits & working conditions at RS?

It’s a wide yet welcoming environment, where senior leaderships and stakeholders become part of your network. At Resource Solutions, you can have an open conversation about work and/or play, with anyone, regardless of where they are located or their level in the company. The spirit of collaboration is a unique opportunity for growth.

Also, we’re ahead of the curve when it comes to working autonomy. Even before the pandemic hit, we had adopted what we dub a “smart work” philosophy, where teams are output-driven but flexible in terms of work pace and style. It’s worked wonders in empowering everyone at work, especially during the pandemic.

Now that Manila is entering a new normal and everyone is returning to the office, what’s the one thing you look forward to the most there?

Being able to see my team face-to-face, where everyone is just a tap of a shoulder away. It’s exciting and I find myself prepped up to go to work because I’m going to see people!

I’m also looking forward to meeting all the new people Resource Solutions has hired during the height of the pandemic. There’s a tonne of new faces whom I’ve only seen online. Now, you get to meet them in actual gatherings, and even in recreational activities like our annual summer party.

How do you find the culture of Resource Solutions?

Our collaborative culture is a big factor in our success I think. It’s an amazing foundation that sets our organisation apart. People feel heard, and when they’re heard, they feel valued and empowered everybody wins!

What career path do you see yourself taking at RS?

I see myself continuing to grow at Resource Solutions, especially as we are making great strides in how we do things and constantly evolve. In my career path I'd definitely like to continue leveraging the resources here to expand into project management and other facets of solutions implementation.

If someone was thinking about joining RS, how would you describe the company and your experience?

You should work for Resource Solutions because it’s a dynamic organisation that prioritises people. It’s not just a career, but also a source of well-being. My experience has been mind-blowing at times, and the function and work style does surprise me every day, but watching the team grow to eight-strong and beyond has been a great journey to be part of.

If you’re looking to join Resource Solutions, I can assure you that there will be stumbles, but you will definitely end up a better person than before, thanks to a great team and culture, and all the support you receive to reach your new end goals!
